Beginnings
Kenan came to working with ceramics not through a formal path, but by a persistent fascination with the materials properties. Trained as an artist in Vienna, moving between disciplines, it was especially clay that held his attention. As his practice evolved, he founded Maskuma in 2020, as a platform to explore a process-driven production. Gradually learning different techniques and developing a way of making by adapting. His commitment remains the same in the present. Through repetition, through an honest dialogue with matter.
The process
Casting in stone moulds is one of the oldest human skills. Long before modern production, people were making objects of remarkable precision. Humans think in models. Every form is an attempt at wholeness — a moment of clarity within a dynamic and ongoing process.
To build a mould is to commit to a shape and understand it from the inside out. Every object is conceived, modelled, and produced entirely in-house, from the first prototype to the finished piece. The marks of that process are not hidden. They are part of what the object is.
Objects of our time
There is a long history to the ceramics we use daily. Influenced by various masters and craftspeople. Traditions and cultures marked many impressions on our relationship to the objects surrounding us.
In essence, a ceramic piece is adornment for everyday rituals — vessels that carry beauty and connect the shape to its purpose. Each item is simple and honest. Tactile and imperfect. Reduced to what it needs to be.
Because all vessels tell stories and hold memories.
